January 3rd, 2013

Starting off the new year with a nice and simple blog, all about Mr. Lincoln and his Emancipation Proclamation. Unfortunately we dropped yesterday so I couldn't tell you what we did, so it's off to today's class. We started off class with a nice little introduction by Mr. Boyle and then some worksheets to read and fill out. After doing so we talked a bit about the real importance and significance of the Emancipation Proclamation. It is a pretty important document in the rallying of the Union army against the South, but did very little of actually freeing slaves. It only freed the slaves in the rebelling states, none in the Northern or border states. Although it did free only some of the slaves it enabled the Union to be able to have a stronger military and eventually beat the South. So, it was pretty important but I wouldn't be one of the people standing in line to see the document on New Years day since it didn't do as much as people really believe. And that was history today!
